| Breaking News | | Sunday, October 31st, 2010: Pittsburgh Pirates Take World Series Today the Pittsburgh Pirates won the 2010 World Series with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins at PNC Park. They won the series 4-2 and it was 6th time the victors have won the league title.
During the National League Central Division regular season Pittsburgh posted a 105-57 record and claimed first place.
What's it like to win it all? "Words can't describe it," said the jubilant Pirates skipper. "It really hasn't sunk in. Maybe it will sink in when we go ride around Pittsburgh with the trophy. Right now, it's just a lot of fun. This is the one you work for ever since you first picked up a baseball. This is what you dream of and this is what you work towards all year."
In defeat, the Twins manager told the press, "There's not that much difference," he said. "I know we got beat 4-2, but bad teams don't make it to the World Series. They just executed better than we did. We're a good baseball team. The Pirates were just better this time around. We'll be back again." | | Saturday, September 25th, 2010: Injury Forces Jasper Martin Out The Minnesota Twins were dealt a serious blow when the team learned that Jasper Martin was likely to be out for 2 weeks after he injured himself throwing a pitch in today's game against the Chicago (A) White Sox. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be dead arm syndrome. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Minnesota manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries--they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until Jasper is back in action."
This year his stats show Martin has 5 saves in 21 relief appearances with a 3-2 mark and 3.86 ERA. He has struck out 23 batters and issued 3 walks in 18.2 innings. Opposing clubs have a .243 against him. | | Friday, September 24th, 2010: Minnesota's Ayala Out 1-2 Weeks After injuring himself, Twins reliever Luis Ayala headed straight to the hospital. He was removed from the game as a precaution after throwing a pitch and the team's worst fears were confirmed when it turned out to be a little more serious. Ayala will miss at least 1-2 weeks with a tender shoulder.
Ayala has made 17 relief appearances this year and notched 1 save. To date in 18.2 innings he has a 3-0 record, 7.23 ERA with 20 strikeouts and 7 walks. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | CF Alex Romero | fractured finger | 4 days | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 100-62, .617 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 53-28, .654 PCT | | Record on the road | 47-34, .580 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 9-7, .563 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 25-20, .556 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 25-20, .556 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 75-42, .641 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 13-10, .565 PCT | | Record in May | 21-8, .724 PCT | | Record in June | 15-13, .536 PCT | | Record in July | 17-7, .708 PCT | | Record in August | 20-9, .690 PCT | | Record in September | 12-14, .462 PCT | | Record in October | 2-1, .667 PCT |
