 | Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010: Major League Baseball News: The Offseason Begins It was the best of times in the just-finished MLB season. It is now the offseason in baseball. While the annual awards will be announced shortly, for many fans and some players, this is the worst of times. An old-time player was once asked what he did in the offseason. He replied, "Mostly, I just stand at the window and stare and wait for the new season." Many fans feel that way, too. The feeling is certainly different in MLB front offices, though. For those men and women, the offseason is a hectic time of roster evaluations, analysis and change. Who will re-sign? What players will we go after? Where should we send our scouts? Who will be hanging up his spikes? Each club's success for next year and beyond will be largely determined by the wheelin' and dealin' that transpires over the next several months.
You may now manually select the league award winners, the option is available in the league menu. If you want the AI to select the awards, simply ignore the option. | | Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010: Ramirez Among Greats in MLB HOF The baseball legends today welcomed to their exclusive club a new first baseman by the name of Manny Ramirez. His induction ceremony was held today at the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
"I remember thinking to myself after I had had a couple of good years, that if I keep doing this, maybe I just might make it to the Hall of Fame. The dream became a reality today and I must say this is a very proud day today.
Over his career Ramirez batted .305 and collected 2563 hits, 550 home runs and 1761 RBIs. He played in 2390 games and retired from baseball at age 38.
His former manager introduced Ramirez saying, "The big thing about Manny is that he could hit any pitch. I don't mean only strikes. He could hit a ball off his ankles or off his ear." | | Sunday, October 31st, 2010: Pittsburgh Pirates Take World Series Today the Pittsburgh Pirates won the 2010 World Series with a 4-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins at PNC Park. They won the series 4-2 and it was 6th time the victors have won the league title.
During the National League Central Division regular season Pittsburgh posted a 105-57 record and claimed first place.
What's it like to win it all? "Words can't describe it," said the jubilant Pirates skipper. "It really hasn't sunk in. Maybe it will sink in when we go ride around Pittsburgh with the trophy. Right now, it's just a lot of fun. This is the one you work for ever since you first picked up a baseball. This is what you dream of and this is what you work towards all year."
In defeat, the Twins manager told the press, "There's not that much difference," he said. "I know we got beat 4-2, but bad teams don't make it to the World Series. They just executed better than we did. We're a good baseball team. The Pirates were just better this time around. We'll be back again." | |
