Friday, April 16th, 2010: Major League Baseball announced the 2010 amateur draft pool today, a scant 30 days in advance of the actual draft. For scouts, it is the toughest challenge of the season, trying to come up with an educated guess as to what a young man in his late teens or early twenties is going to do at the professional level a good five years down the road, at best. Some will go on gut instincts; some will rely on years of experience, but most will find it disconcerting how much their team is beholden to Lady Luck. Choose well and they are geniuses, choose poorly and they are pundits on national baseball televisions shows. A complete rundown of the draft list is available in the Transactions area for quick reference, and will remain there until after the draft. |

The St Louis Cardinals have been busy this off-season. They have completely rebuilt their bullpen and made significant changes in other areas. The Redbirds traded a couple minor league players to Baltimore for 3 players who are expected to figure prominently in the upcoming season. First off was catcher J.R. House. J.R. will take over the full-time catching duties for the Cardinals. Last year in Baltimore |

The 2010 Colorado Rockies will be a team searching for identity. Blessed with an inordinate amount of young pitching prospects at the major league level, they must find a balance between pitching and hitting, offense and defense. GM Wedge is actively shopping several of his young pitchers, trying to land 1 or 2 impact players to lead the team.

Monday, October 5th, 2009: Playoff baseball is a being unto itself. It is a mythical creature: a fleeting, mystical force that consumes anyone with a passion for one of the ballclubs vying for championship gold. It sweeps over you, pins you to your seat or kicks you forcibly to your feet in the flash of an instant. Today, the Major League Baseball gives way to this passion as players, fans and the elite clubs of the league embark on an exciting journey fraught with anguish and ecstasy. Here is the slate for today's games in the Divisional Series:
New York (A) Yankees versus Minnesota Twins, Texas Rangers versus Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates versus Florida Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers versus San Diego Padres |

When Cleveland finished off the month of May, the Indians held a half a game lead on the rival Twins. With a record of 31-20, the front office was happy with the teams performance. That is when the wheels started to come off. Since that time, Cleveland is 44-50, taking them out of contention for a playoff spot. The team has been a disappointment since making the playoffs in 2007. This year looked different up until the start of June. Starter Kevin Whelan, picked up from the Yankees in the offseason for disgruntled reliever Rafael Betancourt, returned to New York for the first time on June 13th only to be pulled out of the 1st inning with an injury. Coming into the series with the Yankees, Whelan was 6-4 with a 3.01 ERA. |
